Domaine du Clos de Tart, 2005 Grand Cru - 98 PTS
Wine Enthusiast Best of The Year 2008
A beautiful wine, smooth, polished, with rounded corners. Its intense fruit is balanced and harmonizes well with the sweet tannins, the layers of wood and the red berry flavors.

Vintage Notes
2005 was a remarkable year in the Côte d'Or. Firstly, extremely high levels of sunshine hours were registered, some 90 hours above the 30-year average. The vines bloomed in perfect conditions in June, though even at this early stage drought conditions had started to set in. Indeed, rainfall levels were particularly low throughout the growth cycle, which explains why the berries had such thick skins and produced highly concentrated musts.
At the beginning of August, just as vital canopy management tasks and the green harvest were being carried out, the berries started changing colour. On the eve of harvest, sanitary conditions in the vineyard were exemplary. Picking started at optimal ripeness on 21st September in cool, sunny weather and continued for another 3.5 days in similarly excellent conditions.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The 2005 Clos de Tart is of exceptionally high quality and its pedigree sets it amongst the greatest vintages. It has all the hallmarks of a sunny year with superb concentration and power, yet it remains incredibly charming, elegant and smooth.
